FREYA Ambassadors Competition



The competition brief

The FREYA project wants the global research community to know about the benefits of persistent identifiers, and the way in which linking persistent identifiers can make researchers’ lives easier.

We want our ambassadors to go out and spread the word. Those who are doing this in the most interesting and effective way could win the opportunity to come along to PIDapalooza – the international festival for persistent IDs – in Dublin on 23-24 January 2019. The festival will be held at the Griffith Conference Centre, Griffith College, S Circular Rd, Merchants Quay, Dublin.


Who can enter?

The competition is open to FREYA Ambassadors only. To become a FREYA Ambassador, you must have applied and returned the signed Ambassador’s agreement by the competition closing date. You must submit your entry by email by Wednesday 10 October as outlined below in the submission details.


The prize

The winner receives a reimbursement of registration, travel and accommodation costs to attend the PIDapalooza festival being held in Dublin in 2019, up to a value of €1000. Should the FREYA project proposal for a session on the theme of “PIDagogy” be accepted by the PIDapalooza committee, the winner will present their material during this session alongside a member of the FREYA project team. The session will be coordinated with the FREYA Ambassador Programme.

Things to consider before you apply:

  • You must be over 18 and a FREYA Ambassador to enter the competition
  • To accept the prize, the winner must be able to travel to and attend PIDapalooza on 23-24 January 2018
  • Reasonable costs for attending PIDapalooza up to €1000 will be reimbursed afterwards, additional costs will need to be covered by the winner or (if agreed in advance) their employer.
  • You must agree with the terms and conditions of the competition.


Submission details

Entries should be emailed to info[at]project-freya.eu by 6.00pm CEST on Wednesday 10 October.

Please outline your project or initiative (or proposed initiative) in no more than 350 words, and explain how you are building understanding and use of PIDs in your research community. Supporting material such as screenshots, presentation slides or video can be attached. Your entry should include:

  • Your name, organisation and role
  • A summary of your initiative or proposed initiative, either to raise awareness and use of PIDs or to develop new PID infrastructure
  • What changes you have seen or are likely to see as a result
  • How you plan to sustain the impact of this work
  • How you would present this initiative in a conference environment

Timeline

  • Entries are due by Wednesday 10 October 2018.
  • The winner will be contacted personally by email by Friday 19 October 2018.
  • The results of the competition will be announced on Monday 29 October via the FREYA website and social media


Judging process

Short listing will be conducted by representatives from FREYA partner organisations.

The short list will be assessed by the selection panel:

  • Ricarda Braukmann, Data Archiving and Networked Services (DANS), Netherlands
  • Simon Lambert, Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC), London, UK
  • Helena Cousijn, DataCite, Netherlands
  • Barbara Lemon, British Library, Australian Research Data Commons, Melbourne

 

The criteria for assessment will be:

  1. Degree of innovation
  2. Degree of impact (in terms of reach and/or real and sustained change)
  3. Standard of written communication (and visual or verbal communication where relevant)
  4. Degree of alignment with FREYA project and principles
  5. Sustainability or scalability
  6. Suitability for presentation at PIDapalooza (pending acceptance of FREYA project proposal by festival committee)
